International Workshops on Integrated Reading and Writing Support (ReWrVET Project)

Writing, reading and interpreting text easily are not only important requirements for participating in professional and social life, but are also the basis for taking part in democratic society.

Poor language abilities can cause school and work dropouts and result in unequal opportunities, poverty and social exclusion.

ReWrVET is Erasmus+ project (2015-2018)  bringing together partners from Estonia, Germany, Poland, Romania and Switzerland. This project works towards the integrative promotion of reading and writing skills in vocational education using transfer effects between the two competences, aims to achieve a more sustainable learning effect by promoting receptive and productive written skills.

The primary target group is students due to the fact that many students in vocational schools only have limited tools and strategies for text work and writing. Content area learning with inadequate reading and writing skills is barely possible. The secondary target group is content area teachers in vocational schools. The framework of the integrative promotion of reading and writing skills will help them support their students acquire the necessary competences.

The project results have potential and can be used by and for second chance learners (for improvement of their reading and writing skills) and their teachers, tutors, leaders (as a support for students to acquire sustainable reading and writing competences).

International workshops for teachers to support their everyday work, develop their skills, exchange experience and methods with colleagues from different EU countries are planned in Speyer, Germany between 3-9 October 2016.

Learning outcomes of the workshop:

  • Understanding: the reading process, the writing process, the connection between reading and writing, the importance of students support and metacognition
  • Understanding, combining and practicing: successful reading and writing strategies
